Just a bunch of new photos... :-)

Kyan was very excited that Aunt Alex sent his elusive flip flop back to him. Now he is ready for the beach.

Jacqui is trying to decide whether he is worth tasting. But she still outweighs him so she has decided to wait until he fattens up a bit more. Poor kid has no idea.

Monday Night Football! September 21, 2009... Kyan's first 'important' NFL experience, since the Dolphins were playing. Too bad they lost. He is too young to know how bad they really stink, especially with Pennington out for the year. He'll figure it out soon enough.

John smiling, before they lost.

As much as it does NOT appear to be the case in this picture, this was a late night for the little monkey. He was up waaaay past his bedtime, and just thought it was party time! If he wasn't so darn cute, I would have been in tears.

His energy was starting to wear off - a little. He remained adamant that bedtime is sissy stuff, but he finally lost the battle much later on, mere moments before I was going to lose my mind.
(The camera was definitely off by then, so for now, you can see a mere fraction of my weariness.)

On a brighter note and on a brighter day, Kyan still loves his little play mat...

... and his Bumbo seat. Thanks to Grammy for his cool little tray. (Nice cheeks, Mr. No-neck baby!)

Kyan just got this cool new toy. It keeps his little mind awfully busy, and it bounces, too!

OK, along a similar vein as the photo I posted of Kyan lying in a heap of laundry to demonstrate the madness that can be laundry day, this is a scene that genuinely makes me sad. The photo does NOT do justice, but check out the filled bin, overflowing shopping bag, and the Gymboree bags - ALL large and jammed full of clothes that Kyan has already grown out of - many that he never touched or wore. I know, I know... I was warned. But being advised and actually experiencing how fast he is growing up are two very different things. While I am having the time of my life watching Kyan develop and learn new things literally on a daily basis, I can't believe my baby is so big already!! (He is 15 weeks old today.) I finally moved the stash out of his room today, and a fresh bag sits ready and waiting for the next deposit.

If you managed to tough it out through all of today's photos and videos, here is your reward... John and Kyan had a good laugh yesterday. Over what? Who knows?? :-)

Just a hello!

Howdy!

Kyan and I spent most of the day at home - other than a quick run to 7-11 for Slurpees with Cameron and Carly. It was about 100 degrees again today - perfect Slurpee weather!! Looking forward to fall and hot apple cider!

End of summer also means the start of the actual football season. Here are John and Kyan watching the Chargers' Opening Day versus the Raiders. Chargers won!

Kyan was a bit of a grump today, but here he was in a happy moment, playing in his swing with his Eeyore that he just got from Auntie Cheyenne.

Here is Kyan with his "cousin" Carly, before her mouth turned red from Hot Cheetos. Check out the gums on this girl, who just lost her two front teeth. :-)

Here is Kyan with his "cousin" Conner. Conner loves this little man!

Conner, Chrissy, Carly and Kyan... Too bad Cameron didn't get in the shot. :-( With all of the "K" names, is Kyan in the wrong family?!

Here is the litte guy, loving on his Mr. Oliphant, lovingly knitted by Jess! Can you imagine KNITTING an elephant?! I need to post pics of the other amazing things she has created! Check her out on Etsy!!

Happy Boy on his changing table - enjoying his turtle mobile. THANK GOODNESS (and thank Jeff, Alex and Quinn) for that thing!!

A few random shots

Here are a few more pictures and a videofrom the weekend and from today. There were SO MANY fun pictures from this past weekend, so thanks for humoring me! ;-)

Too much fun wears a little man out!

Recap: Kyan in North Carolina, 7/28/09.

And here, less than seven weeks later ... 9/13/09.

Coughran Family Visit

On Friday 9/11, Cheyenne, Michele and Monte hit the road and made the not-so-scenic drive to our home from Patterson, CA. This was the first time they met Kyan and we got a little time in, too. ;-) We spent the weekend doing what we do best: relaxing and just visiting. The weekend FLEW by... here are some pics from their time here.

Lots of giggling went on this weekend!

I think he was having a great time.

Happy Birthday, Kyan!

Only a few hours ago, it occurred to me: Exactly 12 weeks ago, at 5:34am, I gave birth to this amazing little man. TWELVE WEEKS! Not even realizing the 'significance' of the day, I cried tears of joy earlier this afternoon while looking at Kyan and singing him to sleep. (I'm surprised he wasn't the one crying as he heard me sing!)

(The dogs were far more interesting than looking up at the camera.)

John with the happy 'birthday' boy this morning - he just loves mornings!

Yesterday, Grammy visited and he had a blast standing up next to her on the kitchen table and snuggling up to her face (while tearing her lips off and yanking her hair).

Here is SOME of the laundry this kid produces in just under a week. The entire table was covered a foot thick by the time it was all washed and dried. Folding it and putting it all away was a real joy. (grrrr)

Hanging at Home 9/5/09

I made a promise to myself that I would be staying home from Friday 9/4 through Monday 9/7, and that Kyan wouldn't have to leave the house or go near a car until Tuesday afternoon. So far, so good... and as a result, I have enjoyed home-time with the little man, did some much-needed cleaning, took care of some Pug Rescue stuff, and we enjoyed a nice visit with Steve, Dina, and Dina's little darlings Erin and Megan. I think I can get used to this!

Visit from NC

At the tail end of August, Jeff, Alex, and Quinn came to visit. Jeff was planning to come to San Diego for a short work trip anyway, so Alex and Quinn packed their bags (well, Alex and Jeff packed Quinn's bag) and turned the trip into a six day vacation for the family. The time flew by, but it was a wonderful reunion for us, and it was the first time my mom ("Grammy") and John met the Mighty Q.

I think I was too busy melting or whining about the heat to take many pictures, so please check Alex's blog "Five Black Cats" (See the link to the right) and check out her photos from the visit!

Cousins, reunited.

Quinny, focused on his bouncy chair friends.

Understandably, Quinn was more interested in his little pals than the Kennedy funeral, airing in the background.

Kyan, laughing at one of Quinn's jokes.

Alex (reading trash mags) and Quinn (deciding which fist tastes better).

Kyan, having a good ol' laugh with Grammy.

End of August, 2009

I am dealing with a fussy little man right now, so this will be very quick. And I only have a couple of pics to share - I guess I had better pick up the camera a little more than I thought I did!

After we returned from Utah, the rest of the month flew by. John returned to work on the 17th and I returned to work on the 18th. Definitely no pics of those two days! Rushing, hustling, whining, changing clothes before leaving the house because of unforeseen spit-up (I learned a lesson that day!) ... having a few months off together, being able to fully focus on the little man, was a true gift.

One highlight was when Alex's parents, Ervin and Diane, came to visit some good friends in San Diego. My mom, Kyan and I were lucky enough to grab some time with them and enjoyed a nice lunch at World Famous down at Mission Beach. Then we went back to their beach house and had a nice visit with a few of their long-time family friends. Thanks to Janet for taking this pic of Diane and Kyan.

Otherwise, we were finally able to get Kyan's birth certificate (they are not so keen on the lack of paperwork produced in a home birth situation!) and now I'm going in rounds with the Social Security Administration to get him a SSN. I took a pic of John and Kyan in front of the Riverside County Health Administration Building (where we got the birth certificate) in case we need it as evidence with the SS peeps! Stay tuned!

Here was the smashing little outfit Kyan wore that day, in hopes of charming the birth certificate folks. I guess it worked. Check out the granny jeans! Could they rise any higher without qualifying as a full-on body suit?

And here is just one of my new favorite photos from a couple of weeks ago.

More later...
